How do you make a basement look NOT like a basement? Look for the opportunities that are present and capitalize on them. This was the approach that Carbon Architects and interior designer Robin McCaul took on when designing the Martinez basement.

 

Taking advantage of the 9’ ceilings, and the vast amount of natural light, the design/build team created dramatic spaces with detailed but affordable finishes that completely captured the owners’ desire for a comfortable Arts and Crafts style family room and mother-in-law apartment. Period details like the coffered ceiling, wide painted trim, beautiful custom woodwork, and historically accurate color palette helped raise this basement to a whole new level.
